Snow Patrol news & community since 2008. Sydney (September 27th) Review

Tonight the crowd at the Take 40 Live Lounge presented by Debit MasterCard were treated to a truly unique and genuinely moving performance from the one and only Snow Patrol.

The crowd were rippling with anticipation ahead of what proved to be a once in a life time chance to get up close and personal with the beautiful voice that is Gary Lightbody and Snow Patrol.

Gary opened the set with a track “never played in Australia before” – Dark Roman Wine.

After a little banter about how he loves how direct Australians are and Pie face (you had to be there!) Gary burst into Open Your Eyes – and orchestrated a whole venue sing-a-long.

In a night littered with remarkable moments standouts included Lifening (which was dedicated to Lightbody’s dad, “the best man I’ve ever known”) and the bands cover of ACDC’s Shook Me All Night Long.

Yes you read right! Apparently Lightbody and co. are massive fans of Australia’s greatest rock band!

In true Take 40 Live Lounge style, the night also included a fan Q&A session – which helped the audience to get to know the band that little bit more intimately!

Lightbody revealed that Nirvana were among his earliest influences, that his favourite moment in his career so far was the “carnage” of V Festival in Australia 2009 with Elbow, The Killers and Madness and that his favourite Snow Patrol video is Called Out In The Dark because he got to dance his way through it!

He also revealed that indie darling Bat For Lashes is at the top of his collaboration wish list, along with Elton John (but solely to hear his incredible stories).

Lightbody finished his set with You’re All That I Have – leaving the audience in raptures at his other worldly voice.

The band revealed that they had a choice when coming to Australia this year – either not come at all, or come and play a smaller stripped back set like the one they put on tonight.

We’re glad they chose the latter.

If you weren’t lucky enough to attend the gig yourself – check out the event in full on Channel 11 on October 13 at 11am!
