Northern Ireland’s biggest entertainment venue is making headlines with a refit and new name – but which artists put on the best show at the Odyssey Arena in the past 15 years?
In September the arena will re-open as the SSE Arena Belfast following a lucrative 10-year-deal with energy giant Airtricity .
The biggest names in the worlds of music, entertainment and sport have appeared at the Belfast venue since it opened in 2000, putting the city firmly on the map as a must-visit for superstars such as One Direction, Beyonce and Beyonce.
Broadcaster Pete Snodden hailed the arena’s ability to attract huge acts. He said: “This building has changed the entertainment landscape of Northern Ireland over the past 15 years.
“The acts come back time and time again – Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rod Stewart, Lionel Ritchie, The Who, Paul Weller, Rhianna, Coldplay, Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Phil Collins, Oasis, our own Snow Patrol, Westlife.
“That’s just a few of the gigs I’ve been to so I’m sure everybody in this building right now will be thinking of the memories they have from this place. “In terms of entertainment there’s nothing bigger in Northern Ireland.
“It’s not just about entertainment being music. Sport is extremely prevalent here of course.
“Whenever I speak to acts they all say the same thing – that arena is crazy, the atmosphere is electric.
“That is something certainly as a punter coming here and as a fan ourselves here in Northern Ireland should be very proud of, the fact not only that we have the arena, but for these acts to come back time and time again as we give them such a good time.
“This place holds a special place in the hearts of those who have visited.”
Among those to have contributed to the arena’s stellar visitors’ book, who, in your opinion, has put on the best show?
